Loans Officer, Community Credit Union of Cumberland Colchester Ltd – Truro Branch

Community Credit Union of Cumberland Colchester Ltd. is seeking a Loans Officer to join our team! Reporting to the Director, Member Services, you will be responsible for providing superior member service to current and prospective members; addressing the entire financial relationship at each member interaction to identify current and future lending solutions, retirement planning solutions, investment planning solutions, and convenience banking solutions for completion or referral; evaluating, authorizing and recommending approval of members’ applications for all consumer credit products that meet members’ needs in promoting Credit Union products and services.

You would…
  • Interview loans applicants; verify credit history and accuracy of information through financial statements, appraisals, lien searches, reference checks, employment confirmation and credit checks.
  • Analyze loan applications. Approve loans within approved limits and policies. Recommend approval or rejection of loans outside limits.
  • Process and verify MasterCard applications.
  • Explain and sell mortgage and personal loan insurances and process claims.
  • Enter necessary information from loan application into computer system to create new loan accounts and automatic deductions, as required.
  • Complete loan packages and negotiates loan structure with applicant, including rates, terms repayment options, and other credit terms.
  • Ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate according to policy and regulatory requirements and security is in place prior to the disbursement of the funds.
  • Provide security instructions to solicitors, as required.
  • Adheres to the Credit Union’s delinquency management procedures, allowance and write-off protocol; initiates collection action; contacts delinquent borrowers in person, by telephone, or by mail, to encourage prompt repayment of delinquent accounts.
  • Cross-sell Credit Union services.
  • Provide financial counselling to members.
  • Process annual reviews and renewals of personal loans and lines of credit.
  • Follow all security procedures as set out by the Credit Union. Annual reviews and renewals of revolving credits, title loans, chattel mortgages, and other renewed personal loans. Ensure securities are in place, registered, searched, and updated on system.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

  • Completed a certificate or diploma in Business plus have a minimum of three to five years’ experience in credit and collections in a financial institution; or equivalent combination of training and experience in credit.

Job brief

We are looking for a responsible Executive Assistant in Truro to support the Credit Union President/CEO in a timely and professional manner and supports the Board of Directors as a Corporate Secretary. The Candidate will provide high-quality administrative and clerical assistance often involving matters of a confidential and highly sensitive nature. We are seeking an Executive Assistant who takes pride in their work, loves to be of service to others, and a great TEAM player with an open-growth mindset.

The Executive Assistant will be responsible for:

Scheduling meetings and ensuring notice goes out to all attendees, organizing daily calendars, recording and submitting meeting notes. To be successful in this role, candidate should be well-organized, proactive, meet deadlines and communicate effectively.

Review, create, organize, proofread and maintain confidential corporate information, memos, invoices, contracts and corporate documents on behalf of and as requested by CEO and Board of Directors. Must always maintain professional communication and confidentiality of all information.

Administrative Duties

  • Completes a wide range of typing tasks that include correspondence, memos, forms and tables. Sends notices, prepares agendas and types minutes. Gathers data, performs routine arithmetic calculations, and prepares special reports and analysis for review by President/CEO and/or Board of Directors.
  • Maintains, sorts and files correspondence, articles, reports, and other documents whether in paper form or electronic.
  • Maintains President/CEO's appointment schedule. Completes travel and conference arrangements for CEO and/or Board of Directors.
  • Completes HR related paperwork for new hires, terminations and status changes and submits to payroll for processing. Act as the liaison to benefits carriers of changes in employee status benefit coverage. Provide payroll information to payroll provider

Board of Directors Duties

  • Attends and prepares minutes of the monthly, annual and special Board meetings.
  • Serves as recording secretary for the Board.
  • Enrolls and assists Directors for required training. Maintain records of attendance and test scores when required for Board minutes.
  • Maintains official credit union files relative to the President/CEO and Board responsibilities, i.e. contracts, meeting minutes, By-laws, CUDIC Rules and Regulations, etc.

Essential Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, previous proven high-level administrative support experience, detail oriented, excellent time management skills. Must be proficient with standard office equipment, including personal computers and Windows-based software Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel. We are looking for a self-directed, organized, and motivated person who can work quickly and efficiently and accomplish tasks within identified time frames with little or no supervision.

  • Experience exercising discretion and confidentiality with sensitive company information.
  • Computer skills - Multitasking
  • Time management - Organizational skills
  • Attention to detail - Valid driver's license

Experience:

The Executive Assistant will have successfully completed a diploma in secretarial science plus have three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reporting to the Director, Member Services, you will be responsible for providing counter and telephone service to current and prospective members; processing financial transactions including daily balancing of cash and transactions; assisting members with their financial needs and promoting Credit Union products and services. As this is a casual position, the incumbent is required to be on call when required and be flexible to work any day of the week from Monday to Friday. Hours will vary based on the operational needs of the branch.
