Who is Eligible to become a Director?

The eligibility for directors of  the Credit Union are set out in the Credit Union Act as follows:

(1) A citizen of Canada who is nineteen years of age, a member ofthe credit union and satisfies the requirements set out in the charter by-laws of thecredit union except

                (a) an undischarged bankrupt;

                (b) an employee of a member of the Central, the Central,

                the Corporation or a deposit insurer;

                (c) an auditor, or a partner of the auditor’s firm, of any

                member of the Central;

                (ca) a member who is in arrears for more than ninety days

                under a debt obligation to a member of the Central;

                (d) the solicitor, or a partner of the solicitor’s firm, of any

                member of the Central; or

                (e) a civil servant whose official duties are concerned with

                the affairs of credit unions,

                may be a director of the credit union.
