Junior Achievement Sponsorship

ANNOUNCEMENT – JUNIOR ACHIEVMENT “PITCH IT” SPONSORSHIP

We are very pleased to confirm our recent support as the lead sponsor of the Junior Achievement, Pitch it” program held at the Perennia Innovation Centre, Agri Tech Park, in Truro on November 22nd, 2012. This was a remarkable and well-attended event that included four judges from the local business community including our own Edith Doyle, Vice President, Corporate and Lending services. Young people from high schools throughout the Colchester and Cumberland counties made excellent presentations, with the winner from Oxford (Creeping Your Teen) to attend a Provincial competition in Halifax.

The J.A. Company Program:
From capitalizing a company, conducting research, producing, marketing and selling their product, the Achievers do it all. With the support of up to four Advisors, these students meet weekly to operate their small business between October and March of the school year. The Company Program provides students with the opportunity to experience life as part of a fully functioning company, complete with an Executive Team, employees, financial responsibilities, shareholders, suppliers and customers. The Executive Team is made up of a President and Vice Presidents of: human resources, production, digital technology, marketing, finance and Environment, Health and Safety.

Students have an opportunity to gain mentorship from advisors and the business community that supports J.A., of which Community Credit Union was a participant. Regional and Provincial “Pitch It!” competitions allow students an opportunity to pitch their product or service ideas to a panel of coaches for fantastic prizes. Over $70,000 in scholarship money is available to Company Program participants and we are very pleased to announce that the Department of Education is now granting a ½ high school credit to students, for each year of Company Program

Thirty Company Programs were set up throughout the Province, both in school and after school. These Companies produce everything from eco-friendly cleaning products, greeting cards and reusable bags to special events such as art shows and concerts.  Company Programs in the Northeast operated weekly, beginning October 16th in Amherst, Oxford, Parrsboro, Truro, Stellarton and Elmsdale.

Community Credit Union is extremely proud to be an integral part of the local Junior Achievement Program. With approximately 9,000 community-minded members, this partnership is a natural fit for our locally-owned financial services organization and complements our annual bursary program available to graduating students.  We believe this partnership will significantly benefit our youth and our communities in which we live and work.

Sincerely,

DJ (Darrell) Kuhn
President & CEO
