Credit Unions Help Fill Food Banks Across the Region

Donations from Atlantic credit unions to local food banks reached almost 11,000 pounds of food along with cash donations of over $7,500.

During October, participating Atlantic credit unions hosted a regional food drive in conjunction with International Credit Union Day and Co-op Week, which is celebrated annually during the third week of October.  Credit unions are committed to the well-being of communities, and recognize that hunger is a serious issue.

In special recognition of 2012 being designated as the International Year of Co-operatives, members were issued prize draw ballots for each donation made which were entered into a draw for $727, representing the more than 72,700 Atlantic Canadians assisted by food banks last year. The winner of this draw for $727 is Delcine Knorr, a member of Citizens Credit Union in Fredericton Junction, NB.
