Community Credit Union Supports New Truro Arena

Community Credit Union Arena is the name that has been attached to the arena at the new Rath EastLink Community Centre in Truro NS, thanks to a $750,000 donation from Community Credit Union of Cumberland Colchester.

Jon Stanfield, Chairman of the facility’s fundraising committee, made the announcement Thursday evening, November 29, 2012, during a ceremony at the Marigold Culture Centre.

“As Chair of the Unite the Spirit campaign, on behalf of the Municipality of Colchester and the Town of Truro, I am pleased to introduce our new and significant partner, Community Credit Union (of Cumberland Colchester) to the new Rath EastLink Community Centre,” he said. “Community Credit Union (of Cumberland Colchester) is made up of community-minded members from throughout the region, and it is quite fitting that this locally owned credit union wanted to support our new centre in a significant manner.”

The credit union believes their contribution will benefit their community, their members and the organization’s good will. This contribution is the largest single donation the credit union has ever made.

“It’s important that this facility creates long-term partnerships like this one that extend beyond the capital campaign to relationship that continually supports endeavours at the centre, or in this case, at the arena level,” Stanfield said. “To date our campaign is in excess of $5 million. So we’ve done extremely well as we head towards the completion of our campaign and the opening of the centre itself.”

Credit union President and CEO Darrell Kuhn said the decision to support the new civic centre “was very quickly adopted” after a bid for support was made by the fundraising committee.

“We didn’t have a problem with this whatsoever,” he told the gathering at the Marigold Culture Centre. “We are extremely pleased with this announcement and being a part of this civic centre.”

The credit union has 4,500 members from the local area, and Kuhn suggested that news of the sponsorship will be well received. The credit union feels its members will be very pleased to see the sign on this building, and is looking forward to the sign being displayed as soon as possible.

An opening date for the arena has yet to be determined.
